Sub-Floor

The three main sub floors are: concrete floors, original wood floor boards or chipboard/plyboard.

Whatever the type, the condition of the sub floor is critical when it comes to certain types of floor covering. At Welwyn Design Leisure, we have expert knowledge in the inspection and preparation of sub floors and work to British Standards.

We take pride in ensuring that the floor covering of your choice is given the very best start in life and will advise you on any sub floor preparation requirements during our free survey. Sub-floors must be sound, smooth, clean, dry and free from any contamination which will affect adhesion. Relative humidity of concrete sub floors should be 75% Relative Humidity or less (when tested by the method described in BS8203).

Different floor coverings require different sub floor conditions. For example, the smoothness and level of a sub-floor being fitted with carpet will not be as critical as a floor being fitted with say Karndean or Wood. Each manufacturer has a standard that is recommended. At Welwyn Design Leisure, we always ensure that we work to these standards.
